The New South Wales State Emergency Service headquarters at Wyong on the NSW Central Coast has been destroyed in a major fire, resulting in the loss of millions of dollars' worth of emergency response equipment. The blaze broke out at the unit's depot and required around 50 firefighters from Fire and Rescue NSW more than three hours to bring under control. According to SES Northern Zone Commander Andrew Cribb, the building housed storm rescue trucks, boats, chainsaws, life jackets and a recently acquired $270,000 flood rescue vehicle, all of which are believed to have been destroyed. The depot plays a critical role in supporting communities across the northern Central Coast during storms, floods and other emergencies. Despite the extensive damage, the SES expects operations to resume within days from alternative arrangements, while investigators work to determine the cause of the fire.
