Jai Arrow has retired from professional rugby league at the age of 30 after receiving a diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease, a life-limiting neurological disorder that affects the nerves controlling movement. The South Sydney Rabbitohs forward made the emotional announcement in Sydney, surrounded by teammates and club officials including coach Wayne Bennett and chief executive Blake Solly. Arrow said months of medical testing followed symptoms that increasingly affected his everyday life and left him medically unfit to continue training or playing. He said he intends to focus fully on his health, treatment and rehabilitation, and asked for privacy and support for his family. During his decade-long career, Arrow played 178 NRL matches for the Brisbane Broncos, Gold Coast Titans and South Sydney Rabbitohs, and represented the Queensland Maroons in 12 matches. He was named the Rabbitohs' player of the year in 2025 and was widely respected for his leadership and community work. The Rabbitohs and the broader rugby league community have pledged to support Arrow as he begins his battle with the disease.
