Two Australian women linked to the Islamic State group have been charged with crimes against humanity offences after returning to Melbourne from Syria. The charges relate to allegations made by a Yazidi woman who says she was unlawfully held and forced into domestic servitude in the family home of ISIS-linked Australians during the Syrian conflict. The Australian Federal Police allege a 53-year-old woman was involved in the purchase and detention of the Yazidi woman, while a 31-year-old woman faces additional offences connected to unlawful forced labour practices. The Yazidi survivor has reportedly spoken with investigators and indicated she is willing to testify in court proceedings. Legal experts say the case represents one of Australia’s first major prosecutions under crimes against humanity laws.
