A woman has described the terrifying moment she lifted her daughter and six-day-old granddaughter into a roof cavity to escape rapidly rising floodwaters during the catastrophic 2022 flash flood in Eugowra. The disaster struck on the morning of November 14, 2022, when intense rainfall caused water to surge through the town, destroying homes and infrastructure and killing two residents, Diane Smith and Les Vugec. An inquest is examining the circumstances of the deaths, including weather warnings and emergency response actions. Survivors recall how floodwaters rose within minutes, forcing residents to seek higher ground inside their homes as what was described as an “inland tsunami” swept through the community.
