Residents across the Rockhampton region are being encouraged to wear orange this Wednesday to celebrate Wear Orange Wednesday and recognise the outstanding work of Queensland State Emergency Service volunteers. The annual event, also known as WOW Day, coincides with the SES’s 50th anniversary and honours five decades of service to communities across the state. Tony Williams praised local volunteers for their tireless efforts during floods, storms and other emergencies, while SES Local Controller Jasper Humphries said crews have already responded to more than 107 callouts in the past four months. He also encouraged new volunteers to join SES groups in Rockhampton, Gracemere and Mount Morgan, noting that no prior experience is required—only commitment and a desire to help keep the community safe.
