Australia’s largest organic meat producer, Hewitt, has signed an agreement to acquire the family-owned beef processing company Nolan Meats, marking a major shift in Queensland’s meat industry. Founded in Gympie in 1958, Nolan Meats grew from a local butcher shop into one of the region’s largest private employers and a significant exporter of grain-fed beef. The acquisition, led by brothers Mick and Ben Hewitt, aims to expand Hewitt’s processing capacity, export reach, and organic meat operations while keeping Nolan Meats’ Gympie facilities and workforce intact. The deal is subject to regulatory approval and is expected to be finalized in the second half of 2026.
